Meera Centre Piece - Diwali Decor

By the evening of Lakshmi puja the house is full and every surface is doing something. Each Meera piece is a small cane drum topped with yellow marigolds, white chrysanthemums and dark green leaves, about nine inches tall. Stand a pair either side of the pooja thali, or step six around the table so the idols sit framed between them. The flowers are artificial silk, so they hold their colour through all five days and come out again next year.

How many do I need?

• 6 stepped around the puja table and the entrance, as in the photos
• 4 to frame the puja table on its own
• 2 either side of the pooja thali, which is the setting most people want
• 1 on a mandir shelf, a console or a side table
• Raise the outer ones on boxes so the table has height at the edges

Where to use it

• Either side of the thali for Lakshmi puja
• Stepped around the puja table with garlands falling over the edge
• On the console by the front door where guests walk in
• Down the dining table with diyas set between them
• On a mandir shelf, where a single piece is enough

Care

• Wipe the flowers with a damp cloth and store the piece in a dry place
• No water, no wilting and no petals to sweep up afterwards
